Called to Worship

What does scripture, prayer, music, and singing all have in common? These are all just a few aspects of worship. Worship is not a musical style, but a lifestyle. Join us as we dig deeper into this journey of what we all have been created to do, which is to worship God. Potluck style dinner served.

“IS HOW WE WORSHIP TRULY BIBLICAL? There’s only one way to find out: see what the Bible has to say.  This Winter, we will begin “Called to Worship” by Vernon M. Second Mile Christianity

Jesus described Second Mile Christianity for us in the Sermon On The Mount: “If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two.” It is on the Second Mile that God’s power is revealed in our lives. Jesus said of the First Mile, “…what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?” But of the Second, He says then we will be seen as sons of our Father in heaven; that is, our Christ-likeness will be obvious to those around us.

In this study group we use various topical subjects to explore what it means to step out of the mediocrity of living in the First Mile. We want more than just the temporary relief that First Mile answers bring to our burning issues in life. We are pursuing answers that have power, and produce a Christian walk we long for deep in our hearts. The impact on the nearly 50 members that have been part of this group over its nearly 3 years has been nothing short of miraculous.

Currently, we are working through Jeremiah Burroughs’ profound booklet The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment. We thought we knew contentment. We thought we were contented Christians. But Burroughs has dramatically shown us that what we thought, and what Scripture is trying to teach us, are two very different things.

Join us as we pursue the adventure that is the Second Mile.
